Elected by his peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America® from 2001-2008 Dr. Wiseman has conducted extensive cancer research studies on chemotherapy, tumor immunology and genetics. He was the Principal Investigator on innovative treatment protocols at St. Vincent Cancer Treatment Center and the Los Angeles Oncologic Institute, and participates in local and national cooperative cancer treatment organizations such as the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) and the SouthWest Oncology Group (SWOG). An author of more than 100 published papers and medical textbook chapters, he has presented his research at prestigious gatherings of scientists including: the American As Director of the Breast Cancer Basic Research Laboratory at the University of Texas’ M.D. Anderson Hospital in the 1970s, Dr. Wiseman pioneered chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer that are considered the standard of care today. At that time he recognized the importance of genetics in breast cancer biology. Considered irrelevant and impractical 20 years ago, today family history and genetic analysis are accepted as fundamentally important in the medical management of cancer. Additionally, his previous work with monoclonal antibodies seems to have benefited some patients with brain tumors. Dr. Wiseman is Clinical Professor at the Division of Medical Oncology, USC School of Medicine and was Acting Chief of the Division of Oncology/Hematology at White Memorial Medical Center and Associate Professor at the Department of Medicine, Loma Linda University. He is founder of the Mathematics of Medical Oncology study group and was co-organizer of the 2005 international meeting (American Institute of Mathematics). He received his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine and a B.S. in Chemistry from UCLA (Phi Beta Kappa). He performed research in immunology at UCLA and St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London, among other research positions, and served as a Major, U.S. Army Medical Corps. Drawing patients from around the globe, he has been named in Los Angeles Magazine’s list of “Best Doctors” and as one of the “Top-Rated Doctors in America’s Largest Metropolitan Areas” by the Center for the Study of Services - Consumer Checkbook. |
